Hi, this is my first time in the forum and I wish to seek advice on my situation.
I'm a green card holder (singapore citizen) who got married while being a US PR. I wish to apply for my wife (singapore citizen) a green card.
How long is the typical wait?
See visa bulletin. Your case is Family Based (FB) 2A. Currently, it is at 01APR06 (i.e., the applications that USCIS received before 04/01/2006 are eligible to be approved). You need to study how quickly the dates move by going through VISA bulletins in the last 3-4 years, but my guess would be about 5 years.

while applying, is it true that my wife can't enter the US?
AFAIK, not on the basis of her GC application, but if she gets another (dual-intent) VISA, say H1B, then she can enter US.

After 5 years of being PR, you can become US Citizen. After you have become a US citizen, your wife's GC application will no longer be subject to a quota and she should get GC within a few months (processing time).

Depends. What is your domain? Are you or the person in question in US or trying to get to US. Health care and Biotech/Informatics is VERY vast field and lot depends on your domain expertise.

No Not an option at all. I wish there was an option for USCIS/DOS to recapture wasted visa numbers. Same with the PBEC. The only thing that can provide relief to every one is legislative action. Please actively take part in the DC rally to get legislative relief.

My dear friend, because when you have filed for I-485, so did 3,49,999 others. Your category will not get more than 3500 visas a year ((1,40,000 *7/100)/3). No matter what your priority date is, USCIS will not even get to your application for atleast a year and after that, the PD may not move forward for several years. At this rate you will not get a GC for several years !!!!!

The problem is in your brain (opps) I meant perception. You may be able to change jobs on EAD, but you cannot get promoted to a job with a different job description. You cannot get a raise more than nominal raise (5%). Bottom-line, you cannot do anything where you will not be able to justify that you will perform job listed in I-140.
So, what should I do?
Lobby to change the laws. Participate in lawmaker awareness programs. Expresss support to people who are trying to get laws changed in your favour. Go to Washington, DC this Tuesday, Spt. 18th and express your support to IV. Meet your lawmaker and ask what he/she can do for you.

I am not sure I understand why would you want to do this? You are on EAD, correct? This already gives you the right to work for any employer; getting an H-1B would be a step back in this regard. Am I missing something?
I am interested in changing from I-485 EAD to H1B. My reason being I want to change my work and get a different position. does anyone know what is the procedure?

Why should the employer hold your salary? If you had any agreement for paying back cost of your GC processing for leaving within a certain period, that would not hold any more (since last June such agreements are illegal)
No employer will write a direct agreement, you will have to payback the GC cost - instead they execute an agreement, employee should payback all the benefits (legal fees, service fee, tuition fee and etc)extended to him, if s/he leaves before X number of months/years - which is legal. Refer to one of the posts, http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=211373&postcount=3 , which has same opinion.

Yes but I was thinking, spouse and children are counted in family based visas and how exempting them will benefit EB visas. Correct me if I'm wrong. :confused:
At present the dependents are counted in the EB cap...So the number 140K for EB is principal applicant+dependents combined...This bill exclude all dependents of EB from any cap...(But the country limits still apply I guess)...
FB and EB cap got nothing to do with each other..

In 2005 I (american citizen) applied for a I-130 petition for my husband who is an Indian citizen. (It was approved.) Then after that the case was placed under administrative review at the Mumbai embassy in India. It is still pending for over four years now. As of Sept. 2008 My husband recieved a letter stating the petition was sent to the USCIS here for review and possible revocation. We were told to contact them here for our case. They can not find anything on our case.
He is now in Canada on a student visa. Can I apply for a K-3 visa while he is in canada on a student visa? I was told he would need to go back to India for me to apply for a K-3 visa. USCIS agent told me to take the steps in applying for a K-3 visa for him.

I must say it made me spend some time to figure out what it is. Initially I thought it was something square floating in a container of water or a pond. Then I studied it for 30 sec. or so and realized it's a waterfall. Then I found myself really studying it to grasp what you're showing. From the "does it catch your eye and hold you" perspective, it worked for me. From the "this is a beautiful shot that I have to print and hang on a wall, I'd probably vote no. But I am going to go back and look at it a second time because I'm intrigued.

Just read that if you have sent one check for 1-140 & 485 then the whole package will be returned and you would have to refile your I140. If you have sent separate checks then they will just return the I485 part of your package.

He can have both types of permanent residence pending at the same time - marriage-based and employment-based. This is very common. The marriage-based filing will probably be approved sooner than the other, because priority dates are so backlogged now.

My H1B was expired on DEC11,2009.My employer applied H1B extension in Oct 2009, i'm still waiting for Approval notice. since my I-94 expired on DEC11,2009. what is my status untill i get my H1b extension? will i be in leagal status until i get the H1 approval?
I have EAD with the same employer but not using.

I have been saving for months I am on a fixed income
